The Team

Our creative team is overseen by owner and furniture designer Richard Mason, assisted by Workshop Manager Robert Boughen.

Cabinetmakers John Turton, John Whittaker and Darren Lambert each operate within their own space in the workshop, sharing the larger machinery and using their own craftsman’s tools. 

The specialist skills of Tony Avis, in polishing and painting are key to finishing our furniture to an impeccably high standard.  He works in a specially equipped and ventilated area with several coats of primer and undercoat sprayed before two hand-painted coats.

Apprentice Marcus Cunningham is learning the ropes and has the necessary passion for wood that turns a job into a craft, work into a career.  Surrounded by talented people with a love for their work, he is finding his own niche in the business.

Once your furniture has been crafted, you benefit from the Secret Drawer’s own team of fitters headed by David Cooper. It ensures the work is finished promptly, with the same level of quality, care and precision demanded by the beauty of the product. With builder John Cleaver, plumber Steve Ritchie, electrician Bryan Blackie and decorator and specialist painter Andy Hinchliffe all on hand and trained to exacting Secret Drawer standards, our work is guaranteed for six years.

Jane Denney and Lisa Kavanagh look after the administration of the company and manage our premises in the nearby village of Cononley which showcase some inspirational kitchen, bedroom and bathroom displays. 

In the centre of Ilkley our other showroom is also a Farrow & Ball stockist run by Kate Price.  Interior Designers Rosalind Asmussen and Sue Hirst are based there, offering consultancy advice on all aspects of home furnishings from fabrics, wallcoverings and paint to kitchen design, flooring and upholstery.
